Artist duo Juneau Projects (Philip Duckworth and Ben Sadler) have created a series of public artworks for Halewood Parks and Green Spaces. The trail is made up of 120 ceramic tiles depicting birds, plants and animals, created by 130 Halewood residents.
The Process
In collaboration with community groups and residents across Halewood, Juneau Projects have created a series of sculptural artworks capturing the identity of six Knowsley parks and green spaces: Halewood Triangle Park, Court Farm Woods, Hilton Grace, Finch Woods, Goddard Green and Frensham Park.
Residents were invited to a series of workshops to explore the history and ecology of each location and to create clay sculptures based on the wildlife there.
Each was turned into small, hand-painted cast metal sculptures, as part of a display with more information about the project and the park it represents. Together, the artworks will form a walking trail, spanning six locations. At each site, there will be a QR code to access further information about the trail, as well as a beautiful map (available in print and as a digital download), featuring illustrations made by residents.
Juneau Projects are fascinated by the natural world and often use it as a starting point for their work - like their previous project with Heart of Glass, Heart of the Moss (2023).
Nature Neighbours is produced by Heart of Glass, created in partnership with Knowsley Council. Funded by the UK Government.
