Reading for the Restless: Welcome session

15th Apr 2024

An introduction to a new programme, reading and discussing texts through the lens of Queer Theory.

St Helens based artist Grace Collins and Heart of Glass Learning Producer Emma Curd have created a new quarterly reading club which explores how some texts can influence our practice, particularly learning from queerness.

Reading for the Restless is a four-part reading forum and learning community for artists, cultural practitioners, facilitators, as well as youth and education workers. The project is for people across the North West who are passionate about social justice, human rights, self expression, learning and unlearning, with a focus on developing practice. One of the focuses of the programme looks at theory - expressly queer theory - and thinks about how we might put some of these ways of thinking into practice and activate change within the communities we work within.

You don’t need to identify as Queer or LGBTQIA+ - or an arts practitioner - to join these sessions, just to be open to learning, being challenged and trying out new ideas together.

This one hour Zoom meeting on Monday 15th April, 6pm-7pm, invites you to find out more, and contribute to the reading list. Authors and thinkers we read might include: adrienne maree brown, Jack Halberstam, Johanna Hedva and Audre Lorde.

A Zoom link will be provided to all registered attendees ahead of this event.

We invite you to read our Safer Spaces policy before attending.
