An unforgettable afternoon of showbiz and social connection

Short Read

Last week, we had the absolute joy of transforming St Helens Town Hall into a dazzling hub of showbiz and social connection as we hosted The Posh Club's sold-out Merseyside debut!

Over 160 guests aged 60+ joined us for an unforgettable afternoon filled with fabulous performances, fancy high tea, classic tunes and dancing. With black-tie waiters (aka the Heart of Glass team, plus some brilliant volunteers and freelancers) serving up afternoon tea on vintage crockery!

The entertainment? Pure magic! From the be-sequinned and utterly sensational Shirley Classy to the fabulous That Matty May to Liverpool’s very own Miss Baby Daisy. Even the Mayor of St Helens got in on the fun!

Created by Duckie, London’s legendary LGBTQ club night and performance collective, this unique social club has been redefining arts and social events for older adults since 2012—using the power of performance to combat isolation and create meaningful connections.

Bringing The Posh Club to St Helens was a fitting end to our first decade. As a community arts organisation, we’re always looking for ways to create bold, inclusive cultural experiences and collaborations:

"The Posh Club is a perfect example of how the arts can bring people together," said Angy Williams, our Head of Creative People and Places.

"To see so many of our older residents laughing, dancing, and connecting was truly special, and we’re thrilled to have worked The Posh Club team to bring this magical experience to St Helens."

And according to Simon Casson, co-founder of The Posh Club, we were pretty great hosts too!:

"St Helens, you did not disappoint! My feet are aching after hitting that polished dance floor in your glorious and glamorous Town Hall!"

What’s next?

Co-programmed with local older residents, The Posh Club was a beautiful reminder of how important it is to create space for joy, connection, and celebration. And given the overwhelming success of this debut, we’re already thinking about how we can bring it back to Merseyside in the future.
